Anyone Currently or Recently House Hacking in NYC?

Hi everyone,

I’m exploring the idea of buying a 2–3 unit multifamily in Queens and doing a house hack.

I’m fairly new to living in NYC and wanted to hear from folks who are currently house hacking here or have done it recently.

I’ve managed about 20 rental and Airbnb units in Brooklyn, in the past, so I’m familiar with tenant laws and the operational side of things.

That said, this would be my first time buying a multifamily in NYC, and I’m especially interested in the finance/investment angle.

Would love to hear your experiences—what’s working, what to watch out for, and how you approached financing or partnerships.

Open to connecting with others who might be looking at similar deals.

@Maurice W. Evans yeah, as you can see...nobody else has responded. Bigger Pockets is a great place, but if I need a plumber, or electrician, or anything local then I need more of a local thing.  I mean, I'm in Texas - this is a great site but it's more of a nation wide presence.  I would still recommend those references I mentioned above.  There are many investor groups in NYC and I still feel those might be the right place to look for this type of a connection.

or that people have not reached out to me privately here...In fact, I have made so many good connections, locally, as a result of this post, I will be continuing to post about this.But I understand how being in Texas, or perhaps your approach, Bigger Pockets might not be an effective source for you.

@Maurice W. Evans don't we all househack in some way in NYC?  How many people do you know that don't have roommates?  None, right?  Now, I don't live in NYC anymore but when I did, this was common practice.  However, if you do want some specific, local advice on it then we need to reach out locally.  I know you were trying this here just now but Bigger Pockets is really good at answering concepts and strategies on a national scale.  For local, we need to go local.  So, let's try some local real estate meetup groups. Meetup.com is a good resource for those but some of the groups will also post here on Bigger Pockets Marketplace too. Even facebook might have some good local groups for you. Some of those facebook groups have thousands of members. The priority is consistent recommendations from active investors.  Oh, eventbrite too. But post locally for this. That’s the best bet.

😆 ironically no one i know,  including ourselves, have roommates 🤷🏾‍♂️  in NYC. (With he exception of tenants of properties I managed)

Always open to connect with people,  but prefer investor minded and experienced individuals.  That's not Facebook.

Does seem puzzling you would try to steer me away from or suggest BP is not a place to discuss this.
