How to assess demand for traveling RNs?

Question

I'm just curious how other people get started with MTRs?  I live in a medium sized city with multiple hospitals and I do see a lot of traveling RNs.  I go to furnished finder and I see couple of of listings, but quality of pictures are bad, and I have no idea how full their calendars are.  Does anyone have a process they go through to check demand for traveling medical professionals?

The link Andrea sent for Furnished Finder is a great starting point. I think it also can be helpful to view the Traveler Search feature (https://www.furnishedfinder.com/housing/Dallas/Texas/Budget2...) to see what type of similar properties are listed if you haven't yet.Besides that, checking Airbnb and VRBO for 30+ day stays and local Facebook groups is always a good way to find other MTRs in your area. You may also want to consider reaching out directly to your local hospitals.

Hey @Cheng Chu! Like others mentioned, looking at furnish finder stats but also I like to take stolk of whats currently available and then search for listings 3 months in advance. You will begin to see how many other properties (or the lack thereof) pop up. Also many travel nurses use the AirBnB platform, so you may want to do the same research there for 30 day minimum stays.

The next step, a bit more advance, is calling and talking with agencies/hospitals around platforms they post their Travel RN contracts. For example, I have several apps that update me on contracts, prices, and positions within my area. This helps me gauge the local market for nurses, compensations packages, etc. to fluidly adjust my listings as needed.

I'd also hit up Indeed and similar sites. Do a search for travel nurses, travel medical professionals, etc. That will give you an idea of the number of open positions in your market. But bear in mind, travel nurses are not the only kinds of traveling workers.

@Dale K Poyser  First you have probably looked at the view stats button with demand statistics for the area on the first page when you search the area.  To see specifically what is rented you do a search for area as a renter without dates. Look at when those properties are available, anything not available is potentially rented until that listed date.  It will be on the photo.  Make sure you check off room or entire unit depending on what you are renting.  The top of each picture has an available by date on it. Compare them to your unit for some pricing ideas.  In some cases rooms will be blocked for other reason but that will give you a rough estimate.

@Becca F.   The furnished finder app will tell you your market. I would advise you if this is with a family member who is really on board assess whether the family member is a good fit. Can they be relatively clean, do they have a somewhat regular schedule.  What is the bathroom situation?  To get a good renter your best bet is to roll the utilities in and use a cap beyond which they contribute to utilities cost.

@Cheng Chu aside from what others have said you  have to look at rented rooms on furnished finder not available rooms. If lots of the competition is available that gives you a sign the market is saturated.

I live in Louisiana, so very different than bay area.  But yes, i do plan to have the wife manage the MTR.  I work in the hospital, so hopefully can connect with some people who can get me in touch with travel nurses.
