Wholesaling in the DMV

I need some wise advise. Currently I'm taking my real estate classes and hope to soon get my real estate license. In the mean time though I'm trying to make money by wholesaling. I have absolutely no clue where to start and my question is where and how is the best way to start. Also, do I have to look for properties only in VA or can it be anywhere in the DMV?

I know its hard to find people that would give some good advice without charging but thought maybe I could find some answers through here.
