Cost to fill in a pool ???

Question

I went to visit a nice hell hole today, there was supposed to be a pool and screen enclosure. When i got there no screen enclosure, and very little left of a pool. It was about 95% filled with dirt. My question is for a wholesale deal, when figuring the scope of work would you figure to finish filling in the pool and making it into a patio or empty it and get it running again. ?? A Pool in Orlando goes a long way, but i don't know if it would be worth it

Thats not a pool its a circular sidewalk and a garden .

Fill the rest with mulch and a few nice bushes , put in a cheap fire pit in the center , paint the concrete grey , and you have a nice little landscape area .

thats starting to sound like a solid idea @David Krulac @Matthew Paul the cost to do much more might not be the best way to spend money here. Its in a lower end side of town and a garden sounds just dandy.

Absent any documentation, how do you know who or when the pool was filled in?

Depending on the price range of the property I might turn it into a circular sidewalk around a garden as @Matthew Paul said.

thanks for the replies guys, the owner bought the home from a bank about 18 months ago and from the looks of it the pool has been filled for some time. I spoke to contractor friend and he said a possible reason it was filled was to limit the chance of an accident while the property was vacant. I didn't see any paperwork recorded with the county about the pool work.

I would think you would need to disclose you filled it in as well when selling. If it sinks down the road the buyers would come after you for non-disclosure.

This reminds me of back in the day when builders instead of hauling trash off would bury it under the garage or part of the house. Over the years the material would decompose leaving pockets to cave in and sink parts of the house and cause huge foundation problems.

I would figure it would be unethical to just "cave the pool in" and cover it up, although thats the cheapest way. I would hope you have full disclosure. That would be no different then finding an old house basement or footing if you was to do new construction. That sure would be a nasty little surprise.

The other quotes I had were almost 10K.  The cost various significantly depending on the contractor and source of dirt to backfill... distance.
