Finding properties in new location

Hello Every body, I'm in the progress on taking my first step in wholesaling properties and in need of help in finding some good areas to start. I live in the New York area were its kind of hard to find good deals at this time or i might be looking in the wrong places. 

Do any body know or can steer me towards some areas close to New York City that is promising to get my feet wet..
