"Survey" Should a Wholesaler get his License????

Question

Hey BP.  I was considering getting my Realtor's license mostly for the MLS access.

My question is:  Who has started out investing, and acquired their Realtor's license, and how did it affect you on the wholesaling side.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

@Rob Rice, I'm sure it varies from state to state, but in some states, you can become an assistant to an agent. You get your own log-in access, so you are not using their log-in. Granted, it might be slightly difficult to gain access via an agent as their assistant unless they know you already.

LOL, Chris, you do realize what you write on the internet never goes away, it can be there years from now for the whole world to see, even you. :)

This stuff comes from the National Association of Realtors, it's going to be up to your local board of Realtors under their franchise agreement who can have access. If an "assistant" get their own log-in, I'd have to bet it's with consent and under the responsibility of the licensee who is a member of that Board.  :)

No, if you don't hold a license you can not give property information to the public, can't put any deal together, you're a clerk in the back office, you can say hello to clients and get coffee, but you can't discuss anything to do with real estate. You may be compensated for admin support, you do not receive a commission. It might be a good place to learn, watch and learn, not do and learn. :)

Agents here who did that lost access! No access, no job! Wait till the agent logs in while willy nilly is logged in under a different IP, bingo, you're caught!

Here, only licensees are allowed access accounts, there are affiliate members like title folks, appraisers and others showing a need.

@Chris Piper  yes licensed assistance can have MLS access.. non licensed cannot ( at least in our state) and you have to pay MLS fee's for this.

your post made it sound like agents would give out their code willy nilly and I know you did not mean that just trying to clarify for the audience who is susceptible to ( hey I heard it on Biggerpockets so it must be true  LOL)

I understand where you're coming from @Jay Hinrichs. I have a friend who is a realtor, and I've spoken with the people at our local MLS office. It may be illegal for an agent to give out their MLS access info, but it is not illegal if a licensed RE agent informs the MLS people that you will be working as their assistant. As an assistant, you get your own log-in info, you do not use the agent's log-in info. Either way, obviously it is much easier if the agent knows you personally versus someone they don't know asking for access.

@Chris Piper  i know this sounds cool.. but its totally illegal for an agent to give out their MLS code.

There is much private information on these systems.. and who is to know if your not a criminal of some sorts and use this information to case homes and or other bad stuff.

Not saying you of course but you get my drift.. NO agent in their right mind would give this out.. they could lose thier RE licensee plus in our market its a 20k fine.

RE license is basically easy to get if you can't study and pass the test then you have bigger issues.. and if you can't afford the 1k or so a year to maintain it .. then this is probably not the industry for that person as well.

Poor advice to have someone just give out their MLS code

No real need for a license. Just find a realtor who will give you access. Send them retail buyers when you come across them or offer to pay their MLS access fees. Make some kind of a deal with them, and then you don't need to go through all of that to get a license.
