Contract Process

Excuse my ignorance on this subject, but I cant seem to find an answer to this question anywhere. How does one go about getting a house under contract without a real estate agent? Do you need an attorney or something? Are there contract forms you download and then fill out for a property? I am very new to all this and this question has been bugging me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
