Help Securing Properties in Trust

John Montgomery
Posted

Hi BP, I, along with several other people, am named as an heir in the trust of a family friend who owned a handful of single family and multi-family properties. We are in the 120 day waiting period where people have the opportunity to contest the trust right now. I'm concerned that the properties may have been allowed to fall into disrepair while our friend was suffering from health issues. I'm also worried that they aren't being managed well currently. I'm wondering how best to approach the other heirs about possibly acquiring their properties or offer them some other means of assistance and make sure the properties are protected and hopefully create a win for everyone. I've never met any of them so I would have to communicate through the trustee or the law office handling the trust. They also may be excited to own these properties themselves...I'm not sure. This just seems like it could be something that has the potential to be a great opportunity for me as someone who wants to grow my real estate investing business. I'm fairly new to these aspects of real estate investing and could use help developing a strategy.
