Type of policy for house hack?

In the situation of a single family house that contains an accessory apartment, what is the proper type of policy if the homeowner occupies the accessory apartment and rents out the main living space?

Nick,

The common situation we see is the homeowner occupying the main house and renting the accessory (usually an apartment over a detached garage or in a detached building).   In your case it would be reversed.  I believe you will still be under a homeowners form.  The question will be the proper endorsement to handle the rental of the primary structure if that is different.

I would reach out to an insurance agent, maybe on who deals with rentals regularly, and ask them about this situation. They will be able to give you the best answer.
