FURNACE Problem...Any Suggestions - GR, Michigan
The FURNACE on one side of my duplex stop working 6 days ago. Call the service guy, he replaced a switch and work for a day then the same problem come back again. I call the service guy back, he replaced a different thing and the furnace is working now. So far 2 times service he charged me $400... He advised me to replace the FURNACE which cost about $2400 or replace the HEAT EXCHANGER because it's might have a small crack on it...to me the furnace is not look too too old at all, it's 90% effency. ((((So, should I replace the FURNACE or HEAT EXCHANGER?)))) Thanks

@Jack Nguyen As a licensed HVAC Tech and investor I agree, replace your contractor. NO worthy contractor will say you might have a cracked heat exchanger either you do or dont period. If you did and I was there I would unhook the gas line so it couldn't be used. I know that's harsh but this isnt a playing matter. 90% furnace's do get cracks in the heat exchanger all the time, mostly due to lack of proper air flow over it. Thats why it is important to change your filters. @Ryan M. actually the stainless heat exchanger is not standard and maybe 30% of them have it, far from all of them. Finally while I am not soliciting work (I am a full time investor) I have changed these for investors for $1800 what brand is the unit? And Get a co2 alarm there ASAP just to be safe
