New Investor from Portland, Oregon

Hello everyone! My name is Robert and I just joined BiggerPockets. I am from Beaverton, Or, but have spent time throughout the Portland-Metro area. I am currently in the United States Marine Corps, and stationed in Okinawa, Japan. I currently have no experience in real estate, however I am very interested in getting involved in rental properties as an investor and possibly expanding into the professional side of real estate in the future.

I came across the BiggerPockets Community when I read the book "How to Invest in Real Estate with No (and Low) Money Down" by Brandon Turner. The book was very interesting and it pointed me to what looks like an incredible online real estate community. I look forward to using the community to build relationships with other investors, especially some that are in the Portland-Metro area.

While I am in Okinawa, it will be virtually impossible for me to meet with real estate professionals and investors in person, so I am very excited about using this community to get a head start for when I eventually return to the states. I am also interested in learning about ways to invest in the Portland-Metro area from a distance (I have family in the area that I would trust to assist me in getting my foot in the door).
