Where are the wholesalers?

I am resident of the D.C, Maryland, Virgina area. Throughout bigger pockets  forums and blog post we hear of these somewhat mythical beings called wholesalers. The concept of wholesaling seems both challenging and rewarding. I am "newbie" dying to get his feet wet. I've talked to developers, lawyers, and casual investors but have yet to to bump into one person who's career is investing in real estate. What better place than here to seek out investors looking to lend a hand. So again i must ask where are the wholesalers?
