Any ideas on how to make this house look good?

Question

Does anyone have any ideas on how to spruce up the front of this house? I was thinking to stick with more of a beachy architecture to match the neighborhood. The section on the right will be converted to a one car garage. I have an idea on what I want to do but I just wanted to throw this out there and see what others think. Obviously Im trying to keep costs as low as possible but lipstick is important.

If the set back won't allow for a covered porch area, I'd create a double door entry or install a new entry door with sidelights to make the entrance more inviting.

Would your budget allow you to create a circular driveway?  It would help to add some depth to the property.

Heavy landscaping will help give the property some personality.

You've got to get rid of the concrete apron in front of the front door.  Using pavers and connecting the driveway to the front door will help.

its all about first impressions.

The concrete pad should go and the entrance needs to be inviting , columns / portico / pergola. Colour and Plants.

Maybe look at window shutters on the upper level.

Yes, that concrete pad will be removed and we will do something to make that area look good. Thanks for the heads up on the trash cans and Ill make sure we build a little area along the side of the house to hide those cans.

Yes you are right the house is really flat. I like the idea about the bay window to give it some depth but I need to wait on the survey and see exactly where the setback line is. We might not be able to add any structure beyond where the existing slab on grade is.

Double doors sound good but I dont know if I want to mess with cutting up exterior walls. I like your idea about a circular driveway; I think the curves of the driveway will balance out the block/flat look and inside the circle driveway gives a good center area for some nice landscaping.

BTW we have about 75-80k worth of renovations to put into this house, and that is at contractor cost.

I think if you add a few decorative columns, that might help a little. It definitely needs a fresh coat of paint, maybe a neutral color with a bright pop of color in new shutters and door. Concrete slab needs to go as mentioned already. You could always put a flower bed right in front of the house to hide the block structure (put a sago palm or two in the middle). Something like this:

That other concrete pad seems to have no purpose. It looks sad without purpose. Maybe it wants a screened in porch or sun room or pergola on it. Also you need something to conceal the trash cans if they need to be out front. I've seen some clever blinds and lattice corrals for trash and recycling cans.

Is that door to the concrete pad with no purpose a kitchen door?

Obviously it needs a fresh coat of paint and landscaping.
