Buying a house to sell in 18 months

Good evening everyone!

I'm currently in northern Michigan for the next 18 months, and properties are relatively cheap. I am just curious if anyone thinks 18 months and some minor cosmetic improvements are worth the short term investment. Since I have to be here anyway, thought I might be able to make a small profit when I sell. Thank you for the advice!
