New to San Diego, new to real estate

Hello.  I've been lurking on Bigger Pockets for a while now, browsing the forums and listening to the podcast (I'm on show 103 now), and if I've learned anything here it's that I'll never succeed if I don't start. So that's what I'm doing now.

I just moved to the San Diego area with my wife and three kids.  I'm a truck mechanic in the Marines, stationed at Miramar probably for the next three or four years.
