Do realtors need contractors? How do they find them?

Question

I'm curious how realtors interact with contractors.

What do you need them for? How are they of use to you?
How did you meet a contractor you are using?
Do you prefer big or small firms or does it matter?
Do your customers ever ask for the reference of a good contractor?

I am a general contractor and most of my work is commercial/industrial.

Real estate agents and property managers are my main customers.

How would you recommend reaching out to these people?

i m an out of state investor, and needed my realtor to turnover my unit to re-rent. and it was all his ppl. 
it was also a commercial retail space. maybe when you see a for lease for sale and it look like it needs some tlc you can give the broker a call

The root of my questions is how to best approach real estate professionals I haven't worked with.
Cold calls? dropping by their office? or should I just be content with referrals I'm getting from previous customers?

I often have a client that needs work done before listing or after their purchase. I have gotten leads from my contractors too but I see it more as me assisting my clients in their transaction. What I mean by that is I want to refer vendors to my clients that will assist in making their home sale or purchase meet and even exceed their expectations. I find my contractor in several ways: networking events, referrals from other realtors, clients and vendors.

Cagney Moreau, it sounds like you answered your own question at the bottom of your original post.  Agents and contractors work in the same business (real estate) and therefor cross paths at certain times.  I am with Karen, perhaps if you could explain a little better we could provide more information.

They are beneficial to each other, and both offer completely different types of services. Real Estate agents service listings, part of that could be referring their clients to a contractor should the house need work. On the other side, if a contractor is doing work on a house someone is getting ready to list, they can refer the clients to a Realtor.

If they are your main customers, I'm not understanding why you are asking how to reach out to them, maybe you can explain.
