Denton Sheriff Sale - What to look for?

Hey Folks!

I was looking at the Denton County Sheriff Sale page before joining BP. I had found a property that I was interested for my family. How do these work exactly? Where can I educate myself about the intricacies of buying from the Sheriff sale? I am sure that there are a bunch of caveats, like the previous owner's mortgage when you're only covering the back taxes at the sale...
