Buying in the U.S from overseas?

Hi, I am an Australian looking to get into property, however the market here is pretty inflated and rental yields low, so I have been looking at other options such as the U.S. Does anyone have any recommendations/ advice on how to go about this, where to look, what areas are recomended etc. Or if anyone else is doing or has done this can share their story?
