Servicing companies buying bank repo's?

I am in the middle of negotiating an offer on a REO when all of the sudden the listing agent tells me that the bank gave the servicing company 72 hours to purchase the home. I have been buying repo's for years and never heard of this garbage. Has anyone came across this before. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
