HELP! California real estate broker license through experience vs

Have you or someone you know tested for the real estate broker exam without having a salesperson license for 2 years? I read on Dre.ca.gov that you can apply for the broker exam after taking the 8 courses and at least two years of verifiable real estate related work full time. INSTEAD of taking the real estate salesperson exam and working under a broker for 2 years, THEN being qualified to take the exam.

My question is what kind of full-time activities/task that you did not need a real estate license for, would count towards this? I literally called the DRE and the representative who answered completely confused me. 

What he did tell me is that 1. the 2+ years of experience is not guaranteed to be approved, and 2. I would need to think of the broker exam application as a job application and really sell my experience so that I get either full, partial credit for my experience and be able to get my broker exam right away.
