Average difference b/w asking price and sold price for area

Hi there BP, this is my first post! I'm asking if anyone has a good process for determining the average listing price and the average sold price of homes in a particular area. I'm getting started in real estate investing and I want to learn the best practices of making offers and feel this information would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
