Which one fares better in a recession single or multi family

I have done several new construction builds and flips in the past. So I'm not new to the construction side of things but I want to develop some passive income at this point. With the market the way it is, could be looking at a recession, which is the safer investment single family or multi family? I have a 10.5ac lot that I can build apartments on but if single family is safer at this point I can put that project on hold. What are your thoughts?
