In the last couple of days I have been watching a lot Kobe Bryant highlights.He was a basketball player and I am a real estate investor. I was surprised to see the things we had in common,  things we are different in, and things that I copied from him. 

Here's a few things that crossed my mind:

1) In Kobe's early years, Shaq fouled out in the playoffs against the Jazz. A young Kobe stepped up, but found himself air balling back to back baskets. Kobe didn't have time to feel sorry for himself he got in the gym the same night and practiced shooting all night. Everything after that is history. In 2019, I bought a property that I projected to have an ARV of $100k $60k. The ARV unfortunately came back at $65k. Like Kobe I had no time to feel sorry for myself. I spent the next 2 days how properties were evaluated. I promised myself I would never trust a broker again until I confirm their projections myself and moved on to bigger deals.

2) I have seen Kobe show  no remorse in leading his teammates to a championship. He lead by example and expected everyone around him to perform at the same level as he did. If they didnt he would let them hear it or get them traded. I take no excuses from anyone in my team. I want to be the best at real estate and if I see my team not performing at the level I expect I'll let them hear it. I always tell my employee I dont care about effort all I care about is results. Dont be around me looking for results.I insist to only work with people who are obsessed with their craft as much as I am with mine.

3) Kobe was not afraid to be a student. Kobe  would text Michael in late hours of the night asking him about details about a particular basketball move. Like Kobe, I am in constant conversation with more experienced investors asking them if how would they handle a particular situation in real estate. I want to be surrounded by investors who know more than me. That is why I paid for mentorship.

4)Kobe would rather work on his craft than go to the club. He was dedicated to being his best self. that is all he cared about. Lately, family and friends have been inviting me to go out of town. I have been turning it down because I have work to do at home. In 2016, my social media was all about being out and about. For the last 2 years I have been staying home mostly the time. All I want to do is work on my business.

RIP Kobe! You inspire me on things that has nothing to do with basketball.
