What did your first investment property look like?

Hello everyone, my name is Kyle and my wife and I are looking to start the adventure of real estate investing. Im I'm the Army currently in flight school in Alabama. I've started doing research online and just finished my second book on the topic in a week (my wife says I'm obsessed). Browsing the MLS such as Zillow or realtor has been somewhat intimidating and we are curious as to they types and/or conditions of properties anyone has bought as their first step. Was it run down, need a lot of repairs? Were you successful with that first property? Any insight or pictures would be awesome!
