New to Ottawa/Gatineau Area

Hi,

I am moving to the Ottawa/Gatineau area this summer for work. I am wanting to buy my first investment property (Duplex or triplex) and live in one of the units. I was wondering if there is any advice on starting an investment property.

Hi Jack, welcome to Ottawa! I'm currently in Brockville ON, about an hour South of Ottawa. I lived in Ottawa/Gatineau for quite a few years but haven't invested there, so can only give my two cents based on my rental experience. If you're looking to just start out, I'd recommend checking out Hull and places close to the river. There are quite a few government buildings in that area, and from my personal experience, lots of people choose to live in Hull/Gatineau and commute to Ottawa, just to have a more affordable place to live. Prices to buy and rent are quite a bit cheaper in the Hull than downtown Ottawa so easier to start out! But warning that you'll really want to scope out the street your looking to buy on, there are nice ones and less nice ones in that area :P
