HOA scam??? Always keep the records and the receipts!

I received a nice looking Fedex envelop this morning from a TX law firm called holttollett. They said I didn't pay my HOA fee and had become a defendant. As a result, my $290 HOA which was due Jan 2023has turned in to a whopping $3406.70 bill. Wonderful.

The reality was I'd paid the full amount of $290+processing fee on Dec 22nd 2022. So I just sent the receipt, bank transfer records and prior correspondence with the HOA office about my HOA statement to both the HOA and the law firm via email.

Any other things I should do? Is it a scam????  It's funny I just watched this a few weeks ago and learned how "evil" HOAs could be.  Highly recommend to all investors.

It also reminded me how critical it is to keep all the rental records and receipts!!!  Use a good tracking and accounting software!!!

PS: My list of rental accounting tool: Azibo, Stessa, REIHub, Quickbooks (not specifically for rentals and pricier though)
