Insurer never gave me a policy after closing
I’m beyond frustrated. I bought a house in 2022 and my broker helped find an insurer. Closing went well and I had no reason to believe I wasn’t insured until… my mortgage company a year later said they couldn’t find my policy and I needed to prove I was insured or else face HEFTY fees. I call the agent listed on my insurance document and they said they never went through with insuring me and never cashed the check that was mailed to them at closing… I’m in shock and still trying to get a reason why. Who is to blame here and how can I get around paying exorbitant fees to my lender?

If the check was never cash from the Title company to the insurance provider there numbers would not have reconciled properly. You would have a received a refund from the title company explaining where the money came from. That should have alerted you to no being property insured.
So to me you need to review your closing doc, for insurance Declaration Page and then reach out to the closing company. You are responsible to staying on top of your requirements. If you never got refunded you might have a fighting chance. But if you did, you may be SOL.
Hopefully an insurance agent will chime in with more advice.
