Looking for advice/mentorship for a beginner REI and aspiring veterinarian
Time is valuable, and therefore I want to start early and utilize it. I am a 20 year old college student who is currently studying to become a veterinarian as my main career. However, I have discovered that I do not want to live like the average person and work 40+ hours a week until 65, rather I want to achieve financial independence and instead work part time as a veterinarian doing what I love while also having time for myself. What better way to do this than REI!
I have only recently started my journey towards financial independence by tracking my spending/earnings, saving more, opening a credit card, investing in index funds monthly (about 400/mo currently), and just overall being more wise with my finances. Ideally, I would like to buy my first multi-family property and house hack before I enter vet school in 2 years as a long-term rental. I started listening to podcasts, reading books covering finances and soon to be real estate terminology, and trying to increase my general knowledge about what I am getting into. I am not oblivious to the fact that REI can be very time demanding and difficult, however the rewards to be reaped from long-term investments are far too valuable to pass up on.
I am looking for advice and a possible mentor from people who have started in a similar position as me, whether your main career focus was being a vet or anything else. I do not want this to take away from my passion on becoming a veterinarian, rather I would like this to be something I also do alongside of my career. What type of content should I be consuming? When should I look to buy my first property, and how should I go about managing it? Besides difficulty, what are some things to be aware of for first-time buyers? Who should I speak to and who should I stay away from? These are many of the general questions I have about REI that I would love to get advice/mentorship for, and I am really excited to pursue my journey towards financial independence! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
