According to an AI inquiry that I did today, the answer is....

Viral claims in 2026 state that 84% of US real estate agents have closed zero transactions. Roughly 84% of NAR-registered agents (or over 1.1 million professionals) had closed zero properties. The number may be inaccurate because of Inactive Licenses, Team Colsolidation, and Off Market & Commercial Deals.

having owned 3 brokerages over the decades this number does not shock me.. when I think of a small office I owned say 20 or so agents. top 3 did 80% of the volume. bottom 5 might only do one or two deals and usually with a relative or good friend.. Its a tough bizz to crack much like wholesaling . It gets good when you can make it 10 years and 90% or more of your business is referral.
