How to be notice in my REI Club?

Question

Ok I need some pointers on how to put myself out there in my real estate investing club. I am new to the biz and I want to work( bird dog) for an investor. Well the problem is :

1. I do not know anyone
2. Have no prior experiance

Now what I have to offer is I am willing to work for free and I have a little capital, good credit, and a steady pay check . I have been to 2 meetings and have got nowhere. I know I should open my mouth but have no clue what to say. Please if you have any pointers even if you think I may not like it I would highly appreciate it! :groovy:

these are good suggestions.
another way to get noticed is to actually have deals. 
what's a deal? any property/junker that can be had for 60% after repair value minus repairs. 
what's the quickest way to get deals? bandit signs. check your local ordinances on the legality of using this tool.

Now Jared that may have worked for Mario when he won the election over Donkey Kong for animated president, but I am not sure it will have the same effect here.

I would just say to be very friendly and talk to everyone for you do not know how much that person may help you.

A great rule to keep in mind during conversations at REI meetings is that you have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a good reason.  Listen twice as much as you talk.  People especially investors love to hear themselves talk, get them talking about what they do, how they got going, what keeps them going, etc.

Don't come out and ask rookie questions until you have built a certain amount of rapport.

Wow. yeah Mike nailed it on the head. The before and after is huge. So many people show up just on time then leave right away. True knowledge like on these boards happen when people are able to just sit and chat.

Our club here in Chicago, we normally have about 30-40 people meeting up for dinner before, then about 80 or so going out after the meeting. And it is funny, those people are the ones truly making it.

As usual, Mike is dead on with his advice. I’ll give you a tip that can help at the club as well. I usually meet someone over a quick dinner before the meeting.  If there is someone that I want to know better, I’ll suggest grabbing a bite together.  I’ve been doing this for a while now and frequently meet with two or three others before the meeting.  Great way to make contacts.

I am going to set up a lunch meeting that I will pay for with one of the board members, since I have not been in this club long enough to know who the good investors are, I figured I can speed up the process with setting up a meeting with a board member. Thank you all for the help!
