My goals for 2020. What are yours?

My goals for 2020. What are yours?

One the things I learned from BP that I love the most is the goal setting for the new year. My fiance and I started this last year and really enjoyed it, for not only personal goals but couple goals. So what is everyone's goals for the next year?

Mine are the following:

1. Read 52 books. I attempted this goal last year and really enjoyed it. I got to 30 which I was actually very happy with. It forced me to develop a skill and I learned a lot about different things in the process.

2. Purchase 2 more rental properties. I set the goal for last year to purchase one and was able to achieve this through a partnership. I want to use the stack method now and continue to grow my portfolio.

3. Run a marathon. I was able to run my first half last year, which was a big accomplish as I had never ran before. I signed up for a marathon, but did not train the way I need to so I did not attempted after receiving some advice that I could really injury myself. Very much looking forward to achieving this one.

4. Double my sales as an agent. This is similar to the stack method on the portfolio. I know that if I continue to increase my sales that it will allow me to other things like expand my portfolio.

5. Have at least one date a week with my fiance. We are in the early stages of wedding planning along with her starting a new career so we have every excuses as why to not make this happen. That is why this one is the most important to me. I must carve out time every week for her and make it my most important thing I do!

I can't wait to see what I learn as I pursue each of these goals! 2019 was a blast of a year and I can't wait to make 2020 even better. What is everyone else goals? Looking to learn a new skill? Add more properties to the portfolio? Or even just be more presence in every day?

@Ana M. Don’t worry about the mortgage insurance, your still better off buying a house at 3.5% down rather than saving for 20%. You can always refi later and drop the mortgage insurance.

@Jon Hill mine are quite simple:

    1. I want to read:

    - Three business, real estate, personal finance, nutrition, and physicall fitness books. In addition, I would like to read one fiction series. That's at least 15 books plus, which I think is achievable.

    2. I am starting a painting business. By the end of the year I would like to have enough business that I can hire a full-time crew.

    3. I want abs by 12/31/2020

    4. I would like to sign up for a 5k this year. I already run them when exercising anyway, but I think it would be fun and great motivation to get into even better shape.

    5. I would like to buy my second house by year-end.

@jon Hill Thanks for asking. 1) I am listening to BP and other real estate related podcasts. 2) With my partners we own a property through Hubzu auctions. Next few months will be busy rehabbing  and getting it ready for rental. 3) Once that is completed, look for the next opportunity.

@Jon Hill Love the thread! We share at least 1 goal. I got a tall order for 2020 and setting the bar very high for myself! My 2020 goals are as follows:

    1. Read/listen to 52 books

    2. Lose 50 pounds (from 235 to 185)

    3. Get my Real Estate license and become a part-time Realtor (already enrolled in the courses)

    4. House improvements in prep to sell in 2021 and have enough money from sale to buy both a larger house for my family and our first investment property

    5. Take and pass all pre-req classes so that I can enroll in a Engineering program PT while I work FT.

    6. To piggyback off #3 & #5, sell enough houses to fund that education

    7. Cultivate love and positivity for both myself and my family

    8. Pay off all our consumer debt

    9. Get a promotion at work

    10.  Find a mentor

Will be fun to come back towards the end of the year and see what all I was able to accomplish! Putting in a reminder for December 31st to revisit my post!

I have a lack of goals this year because what I want to do in not attainable.  I would like to acquire more buildings.  But pricing for assets is way too high at this stage of the real estate cycle.  I am going to end up working less hours this year, and I will try to enjoy it by doing some new things.

Save capital from my 8 units and w-2 so I can buy a third Fourplex to in real cash flow.

Goal is to buy 5 cash flowing 4plexes.

    @Jon Hill

Thank you for making this post...it’s really inspiring and motivational to see yours and everyone else’s goals on here!

    My goals for 2020...

    1. Save $52k for the year

    2. Read one book/week. This one will be the most challenging for me...I already read about 2 books a month so picking up the pace will be interesting to see if I can extend myself a little more.

    3. Spend at least 30-45 mins a day working out...I currently workout every other day...most of my exercising is yoga/cardio/body weight exercises.

    4. Date my wife at least once a week...meaning no technology allowed...no phones, no tv, no outside world distractions.

    5. Get my real estate license in SC

Best wishes in 2020 on working towards your goals!

    3. Have the rough draft of my book by June

@Jon Hill thank you for starting this thread. I've taken a break from bigger pockets for a lottle bit to get a few things in my life handled and now I'm ready for everything

    My goals are

    1) Buy my first property using the FHA loan. A cashflowing duplex to house hack. I've decided how I want to get my foot in the door of financial freedom and this is it.

    2) Cut back on spending money on liabilities aka mostly my car. As well as other things. 2020 is the year my life changes for the better.

    3) Read and read and read. I want to dramatically increase my knowledge within real estate, money, and just betting life.

    4) I have more goasl but they're to come later down the road.

    @Jon Hill

Thank you for posting and I love your goals! Stretching yourself is always a good thing. Do you write down your goals in a certain way? Do you keep them in front of you or close by at all times? I want to format my goals in the next few days for 2020 and am curious what has worked for others.

The one thing I will say is that my fiancé and I planned in March of this year to acquire at least one investment property this year to cash flow at least $200/month. I’m happy to report that we squired three properties, for a total cash flow of around $3500/month.

@John HIll Great topic and glad you made this post.  Goals are more powerful when shared.

    1. Become more active on Bigger Pockets forums by responding to at least 4 posts a week.

    2. Grow my network both on here and at networking events.- I am close to your area so if you have any meetups that you recommend, it would be much appreciated!

    3. Add 3 more clients to my Virtual Assistant business!

    4.  Run a 5k with my 6yr old son. The Donut Dash in Denver looks fun and might help motivate my son. (Who am I kidding...It will motivate me too! haha)

    5. Sell my current home and find our next live and flip project!

Best of luck on your goals.  Crush it!

#2 means that to accomplish #1 I have to buy 2,000 units.  That's double what I bought in 2019 so we'll see what the market provides.  If there isn't opportunity, I'm perfectly fine if I buy 0 units in 2020.

Way to be flexible...2000 or 0 whatevs.
