My goals for 2020. What are yours?

One the things I learned from BP that I love the most is the goal setting for the new year. My fiance and I started this last year and really enjoyed it, for not only personal goals but couple goals. So what is everyone's goals for the next year?

Mine are the following:

1. Read 52 books. I attempted this goal last year and really enjoyed it. I got to 30 which I was actually very happy with. It forced me to develop a skill and I learned a lot about different things in the process.

2. Purchase 2 more rental properties. I set the goal for last year to purchase one and was able to achieve this through a partnership. I want to use the stack method now and continue to grow my portfolio.

3. Run a marathon. I was able to run my first half last year, which was a big accomplish as I had never ran before. I signed up for a marathon, but did not train the way I need to so I did not attempted after receiving some advice that I could really injury myself. Very much looking forward to achieving this one.

4. Double my sales as an agent. This is similar to the stack method on the portfolio. I know that if I continue to increase my sales that it will allow me to other things like expand my portfolio.

5. Have at least one date a week with my fiance. We are in the early stages of wedding planning along with her starting a new career so we have every excuses as why to not make this happen. That is why this one is the most important to me. I must carve out time every week for her and make it my most important thing I do!

I can't wait to see what I learn as I pursue each of these goals! 2019 was a blast of a year and I can't wait to make 2020 even better. What is everyone else goals? Looking to learn a new skill? Add more properties to the portfolio? Or even just be more presence in every day?

Yes, San Antonio is my area.  We kind of house hack, but single family, live there for two years, them move out.  My kid is almost 4, so looking for the next best school that offer dual language (Spanish and English), move there and get him into the program.  Then rent it our, do it all over again in the same area!

@Jon Hill I think most people agreed, nice topic and goals!

My goals so far for 2020:

    1. Return back to the USA. I've been in China for the past 2.5 years for work. Looking forward to getting back in the States and more involved with RE. Its been an experience over here but you just can't beat the USA. No place in the world like it. I'm sure my lungs will also appreciate me being out of this horribly polluted air.

    2. Start managing my properties again myself.

    3. Buying at least 2 properties. One property being finalized is in Gulfport / St Pete Florida. I also have another property in Cleveland that I'm preparing for a possible purchase when I'm back in the States next month.

    4. Spending more time with my family and friends.

Wish you all a prosperous New Year in 2020!

Thanks for replying. I've only been looking on realtor.com, etc. I haven't dug any deeper than that, but it looks like there could be opportunities there. What's your experience been?

I'm mainly looking at low-cost duplexes.

@Gerardo Hernandez it has taken right at 3 years to get it there. I have really knocked it off 1 house at a time. I have leveraged and used local banks to execute the BRRR strategy quite well. We got somewhat good and finding and sourcing good deal as well in our area. $37,500 is GROSS rent . I have debt on all properties except 1. Net is around $15k a month. If I get up around $50k gross i think I can bet around $20k . I'm selling my primary business (insurance agency) in January so that will give me a jolt of cash to get to $50k. It's about 8-10 houses Is all.

    @Jon Hill

    Goals for 2020:

    - Help Passive Investors create wealth through investing in Multifamily Syndications

    - Execute our VacayPledge, which is giving back to a particular community abroad, this spring.

    - Create 2 jobs in our company this year

For me, I am trying to focus on how I can help others because being others-centred will bring me more value and happiness in the long term and would, I believe, make me a better person in the process.

    @Jon Hill

Ive purposely only set 2 goals for 2020.

The reason is that I am using 2020 as a launch pad to set goals for the rest of my life.

    1. Buy my first owner occupied home.

    2. Make 1 sale as a new real estate agent.

These 2 goals feed my 1,2,5,10, and 20 year plans which is why I'm using 2020 to gauge the who, what, where, when, how, and why.

Starting my prelicensing course TODAY and getting prequalified for a mortgage in 3 weeks.

In an easy and relaxed manner, in a healthy and positive way...

I now take better care of myself and transform my body to emanate youth, vitality and vigor.

I make use my time wisely investing in myself and those around me; bringing greater and greater value to the world at large.

I am able to meet Ben Mallah and Bobby Castro in person and develop a relationship for the highest food of all, if its in alignment with the Divine plan for my life. If not so be it.

I now have 100,000 subs on our YouTube channel.

We now grow from 2000 to 3000 units in 2020. And so it is. And so be it. In deep gratitude for the infinite blessings of life I let it be so. 馃幎馃幎馃幎馃檶馃徑馃檹

@Jon Hill thanks for this post. After reading this, I turned to my husband and we reflected on our 2019 goals progress and discussed our 2020 goals. I've had buy rental properties as a goal for the last 5 years. I'm extremely financially conservative so it's been very difficult for me to pull the trigger. But this is the year to give into my fears and take the leap.

I wish everyone luck and prosperity in 2020. New decade = new beginnings.

@Paul Cabrera Love the goals! Do you have an area and property type picked out for the rental? The trip to Spain sounds like a blast. Last spring my mom and I visited Ireland where our family came from. It was very inspiring and humbling. Best of luck with the goals!

    1. Pivoting from flipping to buy and hold...did 4 flips in the last 2 years, closing on 2 SFRs on one lot out of state this week, was going to keep them but now think we can quick rehab and flip to have even more to use as a down payment on a small MF.

    2. Exercise! Hubby's Xmas gift to me is a Personal Trainer :)

    3. Vacation! We've had two true vacations in the last seven years--going to take all the time off that I can get this year!

@Jon Hill First couple of weeks of trying new things I'm planning to attend boxing class, San Antonio Spurs game, and take an online data science class.

As far as finding a mentor, my plan is to start my direct mail marketing and generate some leads from that. I would like to present these leads to a mentor and instead of money would like to shadow this person throughout the deal. I am looking at local REIA in San Antonio currently to find a mentor and looking on bigger pockets also. In first meeting, would like to foster a long term relationship and not just have this be a one time exchange. Keeping that in mind I plan to ask the following questions:

    1) What are some new things you would like to explore but don't have time?

    2) What are some of the things you do that you don't like and would like someone to delegate those?

    3) What is a problem(s) that if solved would save you time and money?

After hearing from them what they need.  I would like them know what my strengths are and what i bring to the table.  If there is some overlap in what i am trying to do, what they need, and my skill set then i would propose us working together on one or more of the above.

Great post! Goals below, both real estate and non-real estate:

    1. Buy two properties
Okay, we kind of jumped the gun on this and just closed a week ago on a SFH in Colorado Springs, which we're going to house hack for a bit before moving back to Denver and then renting the whole SFH as an Airbnb short-term rental. I'm cheating and counting that as one and we want to add an out-of-state property as well.

    2. Become an employing broker
Through hosting real estate classes the last three years I've found that I love teaching. As an employing broker, we can bring in younger real estate agents in Denver and Colorado Springs and educate them about and guide them through the industry.

    3. Read 20 books, five of them non-fiction
For me -- a political junkie who falls heavily on one side of the spectrum -- 2019 was a bit of a rough year and therefore I read only fiction that took my mind off world happenings. I think it's time to reacquaint myself with non-fiction in 2020.

    4. Win a pickleball tournament in singles.
It's not just for old people! Luckily, my wife bought me a pickleball machine for Christmas so I'm going to get to obsess over my forehands for hours at a time. Also, any serious singles pickleball players in Denver or Colorado Springs, reach out!

    5. Remember the name of everyone I meet the first time.
Connections are important and remembering names right away is a great first step to building stronger connections.

Hope everyone has a happy and prosperous 2020!
