How to create an opportunity

Question

I have been reaching out to realtors in my area requesting opportunities to work for them as an assistant.  I don't have investment or real estate experience, but I have 6 years of office administrative experience.  I haven't heard back from anybody and am wondering if I'm going about it wrong.  So BP, I would like to know your best advice on how I can get a realtor to agree to let me be their assistant/understudy. Most agents want a licensed assistant, it is too easy for you to cross the line into licensed activity and the agent then has a problem.  Besides what you are going to learn in that office is great for being an agent but is not that great for being an investor in general. I actually suggest getting your license.

Realtors are busy, they don't have time for you. Go to REI meetings. Find a dirt cheap house in a C neighborhood. Buy in, Fix it up and get it rented. That is how to start.

I would agree with @Jesse Waters, your local REI is a good place to start.  Another great place to start is by obtaining your Realtor license.  The information you obtain will be beneficial as you start your career in REI.  After reading several articles here on BP, I decided to take the class. Also, there are several good blogs, podcast and books available here on BP.  Before I decided to jump into the REI world, I read everything I could get my hands on.  That actually help me to secure two Realtor's to work with me on finding and closing deals.

Check out your local REIA, you might find realtor's there that are also investors and would be willing to take you on.  You might also find an investor that will be willing to mentor you.  Just be willing to offer something on your own.  Nothing is free.  Even if you can just offer to clean units after a tenant moves out or help a realtor stage properties.
