Full time agent or should I work for free under mentor?

Hello BP, my current situation i... I'm getting out of the military at the end of Sept. And mov no back to Las Vegas! Currently my wife and I are debt free including credit cards and saved up a decent chuck of change for retirement, mutual funds, stocks, and too much into CDs(lucky only one year at 3%). She will start work after finishing college by the time I'm back home earning approx $50k a year. We will be living with her parents and be living pretty cheap. Ultimately I want to own rental units for passive income. I'm currently working on getting my real estate license through a course online. So big question, with my situation of not necessarily needing to earn money for a year and with some cash to invest, should I work on becoming a full time agent or should I find a full time real estate investor and be his free assistant, like in all the pod casts and all the books the money will come later.

Great situation to get started from (I am a newbie also).  I have been an agent.  My only advice on this is find someone who is very active in the market and has their finger on the pulse of the market.

Whether that is an investor, or a brokerage either can be great.  Most brokerages are small and don't give alot of education or oversight.  Those that do are more focused on you doing more transactions, not necessarily you finding the best deals.

Not a bad thing, just make sure you align yourself with mentors that will help you with your vision/focus.

My 2 cents.  Jon
