I just recently completed all the requirements to become a licensed RE agent in New Jersey. I'm on the last step of finding a sponsoring broker. My question is:
I currently live in North Jersey, but I work in Central NJ (New Brunswick Area). I want to buy a 2-family in the next few months (2-4 Months ideally) around Central NJ area. So my question is, now that i'm looking for a broker, should I be looking in North NJ where I currently live, or should I just start looking for brokers near my job / where I plan to move to in the next few months? PS, I plan on working RE only part-time (nights and weekends)
Thanks in advance for the advise.
@Zeb Lopata what do you plan to do with your license besides buy that property? That should help answer which brokerage might be best.
You can also consider a cloud based brokerage which would give you the flexibility to work from anywhere, while also providing local support with a local mentor and the option to join agent teams. Save on franchise and desk fees as well.
Best of luck and congratulations!
@Charlie Cameron Well I would like to represent clients on either side.. seller or buyer. As far as what types of sales, I want to start out small with normal home sales that don't require complex contracts. I am also considering going the referral route and also representing clients to find rentals.. So i'm kind of all over the place as to what I want to do with the license right now. But I don't want to just use the license to buy my own property. I want to use it to actually represent other people as well.
Hope that clears my situation up a bit more.
Can you recommend some cloud based brokerages? I've never heard/looked into this before.
@Zeb Lopata absolutely, you can do all of those things with eXp Realty, we well as sales referrals (you have access to the entire 20,000+ agent community across the nation).
About the only thing you can’t do with eXp (yet) is property management.
Charlie is right that exp provides the flexibility of being cloud based, however NJ is very split among 9 MLS's. You can work any area you want so long as you pay for the appropriate MLS's. I'm in Central Jersey and currently belong to the 3 in this area.
