Networking

Hi Everyone,

I just returned from an event in regards to "Smart Networking". The speaker specified that before networking you should be an expert in your field so that people feel confident about you and can therefore refer you to others and also increase your business, which makes sense. However I've heard and have read that someone who is beginning in real estate should start networking because of the learning and relationship opportunities it presents. So my questions is: Is it important to already have a level of expertise in the field before networking?

Thank you!

Transparency is important. If you're honest with others about your experience level and what you bring to the table, people will be drawn to you. If you try to pretend, people sniff it out. Most successful people enjoy helping those that are starting out if they feel appreciated and that they're investing their time in someone that is a good person.
