The agent who responds in 5 minutes wins every time.

I've been talking to a lot of agents lately and one pattern keeps showing up.

Not leads. Not market conditions. Not commissions.

Response time.

The agent who responds to a new lead within 5 minutes is exponentially more likely to convert them than the one who responds an hour later. Most of you already know this.

But here's the honest problem, life happens. You're in a showing. You're with your family. You're sleeping. The lead comes in and by morning they've already talked to three other agents.

The agents I see consistently winning in 2026 aren't necessarily the best negotiators or the most experienced. They're the ones who figured out how to stay responsive without being chained to their phone 24 hours a day.

Curious how you all are handling this, are you using any systems for after hours lead response, or is it still fully manual?

Quote from @Peter Mckernan:

The speed to lead is what makes the lead win.. Yes there are a lot of people that do not pick up the phone, and they never respond back when they fill out an online form etc. These lead sources though are really all about catching people when they are captivated on the website. I would say of course if it is after office hours 8pm or 5am this doesn't always give data since it will take a bit for someone to get back to them.

I had this lady recently come from an online lead source, she basically told me.. Oh I am going with you since you are the first one that called me and even with you on the phone there are other people/agents calling me now. We got the listing because of it and they are buying another property as well. So, I would say the majority of leads yes speed to lead. And the average time someone calls back from a lead reaching out in real estate is 48 hours. That is easy to beat!

agreed when I sold RE there were no cell phones so U had to check your answering machine :) getting back to the lead is critical.. once cell phones came in  answering live was mission number one even if it was to say hey I wanted to pick up but can I call you back in 30 minutes or 1 hour.. that way you dont have them go the next in line.
