Follow vs Colleague: Which is More Appropriate?

I tend to take things literal...Does "Colleague" imply some level of mutual familiarity? I am new to BP and have identified a few insightful members I'd welcome further communication with. Not sure whether to "Follow", or send a "Colleague" request. I did just send a colleague request, but afterward noticed the individual hasn't been active for months, thus prompting the question. Thanks in advance for your input.

Hi @Siana C. A long, long time ago in a galaxy far far away, following on BiggerPockets had meaning.

It currently does not do much, and we're planning on overhauling it to actually have meaning.

If you choose Colleague, you can converse with the other member privately through our private message system.

When sending Colleague requests, make sure to include a message - many of our members have shared that they do not accept colleague requests from anyone who does not send a note with the request.
