As you know, we're always working hard to improve how you interact with and use BiggerPockets, to improve the way you network, learn, do business, and make deals in real estate.
In an effort to make it even easier to grow your business, to learn about topics that you're interested in, an connect and network, and to learn via our forums, we just launched a revolutionary tool, our Keyword Alert System!
We've put together a complete tutorial for the system in the link below, including a brief video that will walk you through how to use it and why you want to:
In brief: The system will send users an email or SMS message (SMS for PRO members only) whenever someone posts something on the forum that includes your keyword or keyword phrase. So, if you're an investor that focuses on NNN or mobile homes, you can set up alerts so you know anytime someone is talking about that on BP.
This is an extremely powerful tool for users who want to share their expertise on specific topics or those that want to learn.
It is a great tool for users whose businesses revolve around real estate as well. Say your company provides direct mail services. By setting up alerts for keywords like "direct mail," "mail," "yellow letters" or various other related terms, you can quickly jump on the thread and provide helpful responses to those people talking about the topic. By demonstrating your expertise, people will come to know and trust you and your company and will be far more likely to want to do business with you. If you have your company's link in your signature (even better if you have your company logo -- that comes with a PRO account)
Just in case you missed it, do take a few minutes to watch the tutorial and see how this new system will change the way you connect here on BiggerPockets:
We look forward to your feedback, and to seeing you benefit from this great new feature.
I'm excited for this Josh - I got alerts set for "multifamily", "multi-family", "Washington", "Minnesota", "Brandon turner" and a few more already.
What are other people setting keywords for? (audience participation here...)

This is absolutely incredible....what a fantastic tool! Never again will I be late for the party!
You guys have really out done yourselves this time. This place just keeps getting better.
@Brandon Turner ...I hadn't even thought of using my own name for an alert. Good idea though. There have been a few times I've come accross a post where the at mention wasn't done properly.....come to think of it, I really didn't need to at mention you did I? Will you get 2 notifications? One for the mention, one for the key word?
Never being late to the party is exactly what we're trying to get at with this function.
FYI -- The keywords I've added include those for the site, my name, my hometown, and various on topics that I specialize in.
As for your question, Jerry, about the double notifications, unfortunately, if you use your name as a keyword, you will get notified twice if someone mentions you. You can always turn the mention alerts off if you want.

I actually missed out on a very good lead because someone 'mentioned' me incorrectly in a thread.
Good job once again guys!

Never miss a lead again, Ibrahim S!
Pretty cool feature! I'm sure this will get people more active on the forums.
Thanks Brad! Hopefully people find as much value in it as we see in it.
Agreed... Fantastic Feature!
I've already added 17 key words and got some new ideas for terms from this thread.
I think this is a great tool for BP.
Perhaps in a new thread you could share your keyword strategies so others can benefit, @Jon Klaus ?

Great stuff Josh and Brandon!
Is it set up to include an advance search to include one or more words
Multi Family | Muti-Family| MFR| Units
Tony - Yes, you can search for multi-word keywords. Watch the tutorial for all the details in the post linked above.
I've been clicking through to my alerts from email, and when I got back to the site today, there was a huge stack waiting for me. Apparently, you have to click through to each thread again to make the alert disappear from the page....very time consuming. Just looking for an easier way to keep everything tidy.
@Jerry Puckett - I just shot you a PM to discuss. Thanks for the feedback.
