How do I search for the contact info for the owner of an abandoned property? I have just a name.

There is a house that has been abandoned a long time (maybe decades). Its boarded up with "Do not Demo" and a name spray painted on it. It doesn't have a mailbox or anything that I can use to get the exact street number, but I do know the street name. I am very new to this, sorry, but how can I get the owners contact info with just his name

First stop for me is usually the county assessor's office, where they maintain property tax info. This might be a little different depending on your locale (sometimes it's maintained by township, sometimes by county). Often these records are available online these days.

Lookup the property, and search for the taxpayers info in the database. It will usually have their name and address. You will most likely not get a phone number.

Use their address to look them up in the white pages. See if you can score a phone number. If not, then start looking on Facebook/LinkedIn, etc for their info. Use Google to search for them by name and by address.

If that fails, then I would start looking them up in the county recorder's office (where they store property title information). Do they own other properties? Can you get addresses for these properties and repeat steps above?

If that fails, then start looking them up in court records. Do they have any judgements against them? Do they have a legal representative?

If all that fails, then you can start trying to hunt down their relatives and get a phone number through them....
