Asking for Seller's Tax Returns

  1. Hi, I was reading @Brandon Turner book on Rental Property Investing that you can ask the seller for their tax return ( in order to see the least fabricated profit from a rental property); however, I asked my RE agent for the sellers tax return and they said I am not legally allowed to see them, and that it was the seller's private information. Did they not understand why I would want to see them? Should I ask again and explain the reason why....or should I ask for 1 or 2 specific forms of the tax return? Or is this what you do when you are dealing directly with the seller?

ask for their schedule E Forms, tell them to black out any SS # on it, also ask for copies of any current tenant leases, to prove that what they get in rent is actually what they are getting. they are selling an investment property, they should provide you with the numbers you want.
