Do Real Estate Agents have MLS in the whole state or US or just a county? How does it work?

@Jennifer Jacobs you guys are fortunate in our little state there has to be at least 10 of them so it can be darn expensive to cover more than your local area.. the Portland PMAR is by far the largest.. but you go down valley a little and there is the Willamette valley one and so on and so forth all charging their own fees to put things on there multiple.. same with over on the coast.. Oregon is a very poor state to work in if your plan is to cover the entire state.. cost a bundle ..

It depends on the area, but usually they have access to 1 MLS for their local market. My state has 15 different MLS systems

In our area it is regional. Once in a blue moon you will see that an agent in, say, Sacramento gets a listing for a property in Oakland, doesn't think about the implications, it doesn't show up to Bay Area agents, and you can get a better deal because of the LA's screw-up.

that's like people in very southern Oregon are closer to sacramento and just about equal distance to SF as Portlandia.

In NY state we have about 75% of the state. (provided you are West of that silly looking city most people know). I am closer to Detroit MI than to NY City if that helps.

Just however big the local MLS is. A particular MLS might cover multiple states, or might only cover a portion of one.
