Why does biggerpockets and fortune builders do what they do?

REI is no secret, but it did/does feel that way sometimes. BiggerPockets is here to let everyone learn and become successful without the secretive feelings and high price tags attached.

Also, short of doing a deal for someone, you can give them all the info in the world, but that doesn't mean others will have more competition. Many people never act on the info they learn. Others act too fast before they've truly finished researching/learning and make awful mistakes. Others find that REI just isn't for them.

@Joshua D. i like to share my knowledge. My experience is sharing and helping others has come back to help me.

From a selfish point of view I teach people the hard truth about real estate. i don't want to compete against newbies that don't understand the risks they are taking, and the hidden cost they are ignoring.  When I help educate them I not only help they avoid crashing and burning, I help myself by competing against more educated investors.

They recognized a need for REI information and training and are monetizing their knowledge and experience in that area.  Being an industry influencer also leads to exponential opportunities and relationships versus just being an investor.  Plus, they likely enjoy helping others and being surrounded by like minded people.

just a couple of reasons:

No one can buy ALL the deals themselves.

Many monetization feeds on a highly ranked site (book sales, pro membership, etc)

Trust through notoriety can have a high return on investment (see M.I/oceanpointe for negative example)

None of these are good or bad in and of themselves. It all comes down to how each person approaches it.
