Buying and selling real estate while being overseas

Hello all, Im looking to take the path of being a real estate investor, but my current job requires me to be overseas. So I would like some advice, or some knowledge as in what I can do while im overseas to get the ball rolling. The only action that I can come up with is give a special power of attorney to someone that I can trust. Well my Realtor doesnt think thats a good idea for me to give to him, and my family is to busy. So Im looking for someone that knows to kindly grant me some info on the subject.
