Legalizing NYC basement apartment

Hello BiggerPockets Family, 

I have a two family townhouse in Bronx, NY that also has an illegal basement. Can anyone recommend a good architect that can tell what it would take to legalize it?

It needs an additional exit, something accessible and large enough for majority of people to be able to fit through, such as a very large window. I wish I could have posted a photo of an example. But From what I am hearing, they are allowing basement apartments as long as it has a large enough window as a second exit in case of a fire. @MJ Clyburn
