Fort Hood Area Investor Meetup

Fort Hood Area Investor Meetup

Greetings Bigger Pockets community!

After waiting and waiting for someone to spearhead a local investor meetup in the Fort Hood/Killeen area, I've finally decided to grab the bull by the horns and organize one myself. I should concede that there are, at least in name, a couple of investor meetup groups in the area. They're largely comprised of the Renatus people who are more interested in selling you their overpriced investor education program. This is not that!

Many times in order to best describe what something is, it's best to describe what it isn't. This isn't a gimmick, a fraud, or a scam. I will never ask for your money for some sort of education program. I will however, freely and happily share everything I've learned about real estate investing thus far. I will honestly share my mistakes, failures, and my successes in the hopes that you can find you own path of success and learn from the mistakes I've made along the way. I hope to create a meetup that embraces the values of honest investing. I'd like this to be a place where information and knowledge is freely exchanged in the interest of promoting proven investing principles. Whether you own dozens of units or simply have an interest in investing in the Fort Hood area, I hope you can attend.

I'm not sure what format this will take as the idea is still forming in my head. With that being said, this is not MY investor meetup group. It's yours. I'm not in charge. I'm not the boss. I'm just a guy stepping up and trying to fill a need that it seems a lot of people have. Perhaps we'll start with very informal meet and greet discussions over lunch or dinner and then scale it up in both formality and education as the meetup grows. I'd like to see a situation where we meet for a meal or drinks and receive an instructional class given by a member of the group on their given specialty. Everyone who plans to attend a group of this sort has something to give and I'd like to hear from you as we all work to become better investors.

Please post if you would be interested in attending. Stay tuned to the thread for updates as this develops.

I concur that you'll get better attendance and people will make better connections at an evening meetup versus a lunch rush. And if you've got people coming from Belton to Temple or Waco, Austin etc they just wont be able. With that said, though, you could try to get a broker, an agent, or a financial advisor, a contractor... someone to sponsor a "lunch and learn" where they feed people and give a presentation. Nothing will boost your attendance better than free food or drinks. Of course you could do this in the evening too, maybe with just a happy hour. Gotta go. Thirsty.

Greetings everyone! Thanks to everyone who attended this past Friday's meeting. We were missing some regulars (no doubt due to the time of the year) but had a few new people show up which was nice to see. As always, some good discussions and information sharing occurred by those who attended.

Two weeks from last Friday would be the 18th of December. I know several people who have plans to start their Christmas travels on that weekend. Therefore, we will not be meeting until after the first of the year. Right now I'm eyeballing the 8th of January. I'd like to examine the possibility of moving locations to a different venue. Not that Billy Bob's Burgers is a bad location. Rather, it'd be great to have a venue that allows for some sort of presentations to occur. As previously stated, I don't want to see this become a drinking club with an investing problem. I'd like to add a little more structure and formality to the group with a focus on education. I welcome all of your thoughts concerning the best way to do this. I need your help. I've never organized a group like this so I'm in uncharted territory. Please share your ideas!

I look forward to taking this to the next level in 2021. In the meantime, enjoy time with friends and family. Happy Holidays to everyone and a Happy New Year! See you at the next one!

Thanks for everything. I’ll be leaving towards the end of December so i will catch back up with everyone upon my return next summer. To everyone one, thanks for all the knowledge and networking. Can’t wait to return and get back on it.

I can call around for a place next week and see what's available.

If we don't have a topic I can do a presentation on BRRRR and use a property that I can closing on tomorrow as the case study for it. I could cover the lead generation that found it, negotiating the deal, initial financing, rehab, and my refinance plan. Depending on who is coming it may be a good topic.

    @Andrew Zannotti

I think doing a presentation on your recent BRRRR is a great idea. It may even take a couple of meetings to go through it all as one can easily dive into the nuance of each subtopic (lead generation, negotiation, financing, ect.). I for one would like to hear about it all and I'm sure those in attendance could benefit from your experience, complete with all its successes (and mistakes).

@Jeremy Fay If everyone is fine with it I would be more than willing to present it. The property should start demo in one of the units this weekend so I would have no problems showing it as we go through the process. It's not a perfect BRRRR because my budget is gonna be a little higher than expected but it should sti be a solid deal.

I also get back into Killeen tonight so I'll call around to a few places tomorrow to see if there is a place we can have it.

Can you set an event thing for it so I have an idea of how many people will attend so I can let whatever place it is at know?

Low turnout tonight. Is everyone still good with bi-monthly or do we want to extend it to once a month? Maybe a change of pace with a new venue? Begin to put a real emphasis on education? All feedback is welcome.

Let's keep it twice a month, and have people in the group invite anyone else in the area that might want to learn and grow together.
