Paying mortgage insurance upfront

How do you feel about paying mortgage insurance upfront? My loan officer mentioned tax benefits as a plus and lower monthly payments. Are there any downsides to that loan payment option from an investor point of view?

We pre paid our mortgage insurance on our primary house.  We felt it was worth it.  We also knew we were not moving anytime soon.  Our Interest rate is super low and we know we would not be refinancing.
