Construction work with tenant in place?

Vu Trinh
Posted

I'm in the process of getting my garage converted into a 400sqft attached ADU to rent out while livong in the main house. We're now thinking of moving and renting the main house out as well. Should I wait until getting the conversion done first and then move? Or should we try to look for tenants for the main house now and move. Then when we get the permit, star construction on the garage while the tenants live in the main house? Would that cause an issue with the tenants?

@Vu Trinh I would say its probably better for you to live with the construction/conversion of garage vs a tenant. If you're going to move out and have a tenant there, you better let them know in advance and make sure they are ok with it. The other issue is how messy are the contractors going to be. If they are leaving materials, debris and tools out on the lawn/driveway, that could be very frustrating for a tenant. Going back to what I was saying, stay in the house till construction is complete if you can.
