Gutter needed for new build?

Victor N.
Posted

Hi all, I just completed my first deal. It's a new single family home without a gutter. The foundation is slab without a basement. I'm getting different opinions on whether a gutter is needed. One says I should because it will protect the foundation from the rain, while my property manager says most units he manages there don't have gutters. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

@Victor N. it really depends on the current overall setup of the building.

Some great info from @Alan F.!

RISKS
:
- Is rainwater getting into the walls w/o anyone knowing about it?
- Is rainwater undermining the foundation w/o anyone realizing it?

There are 3 main issues to address for handling rainwater:
1) Elevation of soil around the foundation
2) Gutters
3) Downspout locations & extensions lengths

If the elevation is high enough and proeprly slopes away from the foundtion, gutters & downspouts may not be needed.
