How to best check vacancy rates

Hey everyone, what are the best resources you have come across to check vacancy rates in an area you own in or a perspective area you are thinking of buying in? Asking local landlords is always good and I try to do that often. Are there other resources out there that can help? Thanks!

Things change so quickly in areas. I look at craiglist, and Zillow. I also physically drive area looking for "for rent" signs.
